Havana, Cuba

Last year I went to Cuba with some friends and experienced something truly amazing.  Havana is beautiful and dirty.  The architecture is grand and the buildings are dilapidated.  The people are impoverished and fantastically kind.
I spoke to my friends recently and one of them asked me if I think about Cuba much.  Oddly enough, I think about it a lot and he agreed - he said not a day went by that he didn't think about it and the incredible time we all had there.
Being in the cold of Winter now makes me long for skin-baring clothes and long, sunny days like we had last summer in Cuba.  These are some images I made with my handy plastic Holga camera.

Adam Amengual's 'Homies' Project

Adam Amengual is a photographer I met in Brooklyn, but has since moved to Los Angeles and has been working on a really interesting project - Homies.  I've been watching it get a lot of attention, including one of his most recent accolades - selected photographer for People & Portrait 2011 from Exposure.  Great work Adam - keep it up!

2011 Country Fair

Last summer I went down to Eugene, OR for the annual Country Fair.  We had an amazing time and I'm already looking forward to going back!

Niko!

These are some portraits of Niko Kaparos I made a few years ago for a small photography show at my second home, Bar4 with three other great Brooklyn photographers, Katie Basile, Matt Occhuizzo, and Emily Raw. We all photographed local artists/performers and I chose Niko as one of my subjects because he was the sound guru at a few neighborhood bars in Brooklyn, NY and a pillar in the scene.  He was kind enough to suck down several cigarettes - one after another - in order for me to make these photos.  Thanks again Niko!

Memories of New York

I was recently doing some winter tidying and in an attempt to organize my photos (an ongoing project), I came across these film photos I took during my time in NYC.

Christmas Tree Hunting

My sister, Molly and I joined some friends on a Christmas tree hunt near ZigZag, OR recently.  We played around a bit in the snow and I got this shot of her seemingly floating in air - exemplifying the feeling of the day.
